Karl H. Johansson, PhD
Karl H. Johansson is Swedish Research Council Distinguished Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and Founding Director of Digital Futures. His research focuses on building safe autonomous systems that make intelligent real-time decisions. His pioneering contributions in networked control and cyber-physical systems are recognized for their impact in transportation, automation, and energy networks. In these areas, he maintains extensive industrial and international collaborations, has co-authored more than a thousand papers, and has supervised over 100 postdocs and PhD students.
Dr. Johansson has held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, Caltech, and NTU Singapore, among many other institutions. For his scientific contributions and innovations, he has received numerous awards such as Wallenberg Scholar by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Future Research Leader by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, IEEE CSS Bode Lecture Prize, and IFAC Kwon Award.
Among his leadership roles, Johansson has served as President of the European Control Association, IEEE CSS Vice President, and member of the IEEE CSS Board of Governors and the IFAC Council. His editorial service includes the boards of Automatica, IEEE TAC, IEEE TCNS, and many other journals, alongside membership of the Swedish Scientific Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering Sciences. He is a Fellow of both the IEEE and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
