Dr. Yutaka Hirano discusses value of Modelica open standards at Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation started using Modelica open standards in 1996 to develop the hybrid control system for the first-generation Prius.

Since then, the partnership with Modelon for model development based on open standards has expanded to encompass braking, steering, drive train and other system design throughout the company.

Different divisions build various models based on different tools, says Yutaka Hirano, Project General Manager for Toyota's Future Project Division. Open standards ensure that these models can be integrated to investigate system interaction for the entire vehicle.

Now that Modelon KK has been established in Japan, Mr. Hirano expects that Toyota will develop an even closer collaboration with Modelon.

This 2:53 interview is the first in a series conducted by Modelon at the 10th International Modelica Conference in Lund, Sweden in March 2014.
