Stefan-Alexander Schneider, Method Engineer responsible for Dymola at BMW, says that several projects have confirmed that FMI "is our best chance to establish cross-domain simulations throughout the vehicle development process".
"Models can be developed in the best authoring tool for the specific domain and simulated in the best integration platform for specific analysis, test cases or parameter studies."
According to Mr. Schneider, Karl Erich Probst, CIO of the BMW Group, has said that the lack of openness of IT systems is a major cost driver for IT.
In response to this issue, BMW has teamed with German automotive OEMs and the standards body ProStep iViP to establish the Code of PLM Openness (CPO). CPO addresses open-systems product lifecycle management (PLM) among IT customers, vendors and service providers. FMI implementation is a major part of this initiative for BMW.
